Glenn Highway Alaska.Route 1 from Tok to Gakona, 125 miles, Gakona to Glennallen, 15 miles, and Glennallen to Anchorage, 189 miles. From the Alaska Highway, this is how you get to Southcentral Alaska, including Anchorage and the Kenai Peninsula. From Tok to Glennallen is referred to as the Tok Cut-Off and borders the wilderness area of Wrangell-St. Elias National Park. This area consists of spectacular mountains that flow into wide open tundra, meandering streams and numerous smaller lakes and ponds. From the town of Glennallen on to the major city of Anchorage, this scenery gets even more spectacular, as the road passes through high alpine terrain, glacial carved valleys and then down along the Matanuska Glacier, where it winds through a deep canyon valley carved by the glacier fed Matanuska river and its tributaries. Chickaloon, Eureka, Glennallen, Lake Louise, Palmer, Sutton, and some great areas in-between.Tok - This will be your first major town if you are arriving in Alaska via the Alcan or from over the Top of the World Highway that passes through Dawson City Yukon. Wrangell St. Elias National Park - Enterance to the park is via the Nabesna Road that exits the Tok Cutoff in Slana. King Mountain State Recreation Site: No information Available Mile 76 Bonnie Lake State Recreation Site: No information Available Mile 83.5 Long Lake State Recreation Site: Mile 85.5 This park unit will remain open, however, no services will be provided. Matanuska Glacier State Recreation Site: Mile 101 This unit will have the camping area blocked off, but access to the day-use area will remain open. However, no services will be provided in the day-use area.
Little Nelchina State Recreation Site: Mile 137.5 This park unit will remain open, however, no services will be provided. Lake Louise State Recreation Area: Mile 160 511 acres, 60 camp sites, a boat launch, fishing, picnic area, water and toilets.
